Check hardware and region together
The 3DS family is different from the DS family. A system with “DS” in the name is not automatically able to play 3DS software. Imported 3DS game cards also need their regional compatibility checked.
If you want the original Kalos adventure, confirm the title is X or Y. Legends: Z-A returns to Lumiose City but uses a different structure and battle system; it is not a rerelease of X and Y.
Older services are not current features
The end of new 3DS eShop purchases affects how new players can obtain software. The retirement of most 3DS online play affects historical internet features. Neither should be summarized as “everything on 3DS is gone,” because owned local games and particular continuing services are different cases.
Before buying for a specific multiplayer purpose, check whether you mean local wireless or the original internet service. A working local cartridge does not revive the old online infrastructure.
Preserve the save before transfers
Record which cartridge or digital copy holds the progress you care about. Moving Pokémon to a later service is not the same as moving the entire adventure save, including badges and story state.
Pokémon Bank’s published service-end notice is especially relevant to older-generation collections. Confirm that you have the necessary app access and complete any desired transfer while the supported route still exists.
Availability claims here are bounded to the official sources checked on the displayed date. A search result promising an instant “X and Y Switch edition” is not enough to establish an official product.
