Where to play

Where can you play Pokémon Sun and Moon?

Pokémon Sun and Moon are Nintendo 3DS games. Existing physical copies and previously acquired digital copies are the relevant official options; the 3DS eShop no longer sells new software.

3DS software needs 3DS-family hardware

A DS or DSi cannot play a 3DS game card. A Switch cannot directly read it either. Check the cartridge region against the 3DS system, especially when buying an imported copy.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are separate releases with changes and additions. They are not a downloadable update that automatically comes with Sun or Moon. Choose the exact adventure you want before comparing listings.

Separate the shop closure from local play

The closure of new eShop purchases does not mean an owned physical cartridge stops working as a local game. Redownload availability, system updates and individual online services are separate issues with their own current support notices.

Most original 3DS online play services have ended. A game still booting does not prove that its historical internet trading, battle or distribution features remain available.

Check Bank before making a transfer plan

Pokémon Bank is a separate app and service. Its announced end time is February 26, 2027 at 03:00 UTC, which is February 25 at 7 p.m. PST. A transfer route depending on Bank should be completed before that service ends, subject to the current official notice.

Do not assume you can newly acquire every required app on a freshly purchased used 3DS. Confirm what is already installed and legitimately accessible to the account and system.

This page does not recommend an unverified 3DS emulator or promise compatibility on a phone. If computer play is your goal, check the current maintainer, project status and exact game support before trusting an older setup video.
