How to check whether a Pokémon can move to another game

Check the source game, transfer service and destination game before moving a Pokémon. A route that reaches HOME may still be one-way or may not allow that species or form into the game you want.

Draw the route before sending anything

Write down where the Pokémon is now and where you want it to finish. Then check every connection between those points. Historical transfers can require intermediate games, hardware or apps, while newer games may connect directly to HOME.

Do not confuse moving the Pokémon with moving its adventure save. HOME does not carry your story progress, badges, inventory or full save slot into another game.

Check return paths explicitly

GO-to-HOME transfers are one-way. Bank-to-HOME moves are also not a round trip back into the old game. Some Switch game connections have additional restrictions after a Pokémon has visited another title.

Check the destination’s actual species and form support. A full HOME collection is not a promise that every entry can enter Scarlet, Sword or another specific game.

Use a small verification step

Confirm the account connected to each app, inspect the selected Pokémon and read the final transfer message. For a valuable collection, do not select everything simply to test whether the connection works.

Check how the destination handles moves and other game-specific data. A Pokémon’s battle details may be adjusted for the receiving title; do not assume every move is preserved in every context.

Historical services have deadlines

Pokémon Bank’s official service end is February 26, 2027 at 03:00 UTC. Any route depending on Bank needs attention before that time and a current check that the required app and account access are available.

Nintendo’s current FireRed/LeafGreen FAQ says the Switch releases can transfer Pokémon into HOME with HOME version 4.1.0 or later. Update HOME before planning that route. This does not give original GBA cartridges a direct Switch-to-HOME connection, and the announced transfer is one-way.

Nintendo’s current FAQ explicitly supports transfers from the Switch releases using HOME 4.1.0 or later. The earlier October announcement supplies historical context and one-way transfer information. This is a documentation check, not an installation test.
