Read the current requirements
melonDS’s project documentation describes supported platforms and system-file requirements. Those details can change between releases, so do not assume an old setup video is still the right installation procedure.
Use the maintainer repository or its linked release page. A similarly named mobile package or bundled download is not automatically the same project or build.
Make the two-screen layout usable
Pokémon DS games use both displays. Choose a layout that lets you read menus without making the main action too small. Map buttons and ensure you can reach touch controls with your chosen mouse, stylus or supported input device.
Open the game, check the audio and make a conventional in-game save. Locate the save file through the emulator’s documentation and keep a copy before importing an older save or updating the program.
Use a reproducible troubleshooting baseline
Begin with defaults and change one setting at a time. Record the emulator version, operating system, game region and exact symptom. A white screen, a bad save import and a touch-control problem need different fixes.
Do not rename a save state and expect it to become a battery-save file. The game’s conventional save and the emulator’s snapshot format are different kinds of data.
Connectivity is a separate test
Local wireless emulation and historical internet features have their own support limitations. A game loading successfully does not establish that trading, transfers or a retired online service will work.
This guide describes the documented preparation sequence. It does not promise complete compatibility for every DS Pokémon feature or claim a live trade has been tested on your platform.
