3D roster fighting game

K.O.R.E., MUGEN and IKEMEN GO: what differs?

K.O.R.E. is an independent 3D browser fighter. IKEMEN GO describes support for MUGEN resources and a compatibility goal. Choose by the current engine, supported content and workflow rather than treating the names as interchangeable.

Start with your requirement

A useful comparison begins with one practical goal: play a roster fighter in the browser, keep an existing MUGEN project working, or author a new game with a different presentation. Those goals can lead to different choices. The word “alternative” does not mean a drop-in implementation.

K.O.R.E. uses its own browser runtime and content definitions. MUGEN is the separate engine family referenced by the search term. IKEMEN GO's primary repository describes support for MUGEN resources and a backwards-compatibility aim while acknowledging behavior differences. That is a project statement, not a compatibility guarantee for a particular character pack.

What has actually been inspected

The K.O.R.E. source review covers mode/menu passages, controls, character import and stage parsing. Character import begins from sprite sheets; stage import uses development endpoints. The review has not demonstrated a public service that accepts arbitrary MUGEN packs and executes their complete behavior.

The original Elecbyte documentation URL returned an access error during this review. That gap is retained in the research record, so this page does not fabricate a newly verified version-by-version MUGEN feature matrix.

A fair compatibility test

Use a small example before attempting an entire roster. Check artwork, orientation, animation assignments, movement, move timing, hit behavior and any required audio or effects. A successful image import only answers the artwork portion.

For an existing project, keep the original files and a working copy in the original engine. Translate one element at a time, record any authored changes and compare behavior before calling the conversion complete. This is practical advice, not a claim that this review ported an entire third-party game.

Which should you try first?

Choose K.O.R.E. first when the immediate goal is its current browser fighter. Consult primary engine documentation first when the immediate goal is retaining a specific external content format. Read 3D MUGEN explained for positioning and custom fighters for the inspected authoring boundary.

Coverage: Named source passages inspected; practical routines are original advice. Production entry and selected source comparisons are recorded separately. No whole-roster, full-campaign, physical-device or universal network certification.

First-party facts: Named runtime/source passages and the selected live entry checks recorded here. Original additions: Explanations, comparison framing and practice routines. Gaps: No full-campaign, whole-roster, universal device or network certification. Development tooling is distinct from public capabilities.
