Breath of the Wild: what to do after the opening

After the Great Plateau, follow a manageable route, activate useful travel points and experiment with combat and survival systems. You do not need to clear every visible challenge as soon as you see it.

Give exploration a short destination

Choose a nearby landmark, village or quest clue rather than treating the whole map as one task. Towers and shrines can help you understand the terrain and create useful return points.

Watch elevation, weather and the supplies you carry. A route that looks short on the map can become difficult if it requires a long climb or unfamiliar environmental protection.

Save strong equipment for a reason

Weapons wear out, so use a range of available tools instead of refusing to fight until you find a permanent favorite. Environmental options and enemy behavior can make a battle easier without spending the strongest weapon on every target.

Read attack patterns and learn when to block, dodge or leave. A dangerous enemy is not always a mandatory fight simply because it is on the road.

Prepare before a longer trip

Cook useful food, keep healing available and check the equipment suited to the destination. Different environmental problems call for different preparation, not just more hearts.

Return to a known safe location when you need to restock. Fast travel and a clear goal can keep exploration from turning into a long retreat with no supplies.

Let discoveries answer a question

If a route is blocked, ask what tool or approach might solve it. Experiment in a low-risk place before depending on a new trick during combat.

This is a spoiler-light planning guide. Tears of the Kingdom has a different ability set and world structure, so instructions involving its new tools should not be treated as Breath of the Wild controls.
