Installed software is not the save
Moving or redownloading game software does not necessarily move the adventure progress. A game card can launch the game while the save remains on the console. This is why lending a cartridge and transferring a save are different activities.
The ordinary microSD card role is software and supported media storage, not a universal manual save backup. Do not remove a card and assume every user’s progress is now safely on it.
Check the supported transfer route
Nintendo provides data-management and system-transfer procedures. Read whether a particular operation moves data, copies it or removes it from the source. The menu’s warning is part of the procedure, not a step to skip.
Cloud saves are conditional
Save Data Cloud requires the appropriate service and a supported game. Some titles have restrictions or separate systems. Verify the game rather than inferring backup support from a membership icon elsewhere on the console.
Separate game-specific services
Pokémon HOME stores eligible Pokémon, not the complete adventure. Animal Crossing has island-related transfer considerations. A publisher account may store some online progress while local settings remain elsewhere.
Before moving systems, list the saves that matter, identify their supported routes and check them on the receiving system afterward. If a save appears missing, verify the selected user before creating new progress or resetting anything.
The official support source below explains the storage distinction. Use the current system menu and title-specific instructions for the actual transfer, because a general article cannot safely replace every game’s exception.
