Start with the library you want
The standard tier includes selected NES, Super NES and Game Boy games. Expansion Pack adds selections from systems including Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and SEGA Genesis. Nintendo’s current comparison also lists GameCube classics on Switch 2.
A system name is not a promise of its entire catalog. Check whether the exact game you want is in the current library. Emerald, for example, does not become included simply because the plan has GBA games.
DLC access is not a base-game purchase
Selected included DLC or upgrade packs can require ownership of the associated base game and an active membership. Read the specific benefit to understand what happens when membership ends and what content was purchased separately.
Likewise, a compatible Switch game and its paid Switch 2 Edition upgrade are separate questions. Not every upgrade pack is included in the subscription.
Match the plan to the hardware
Switch 2-only features require Switch 2. A higher membership tier does not add a missing hardware feature to an original Switch or Switch Lite.
Check account coverage
Individual and family memberships cover different account arrangements. If you already have a plan, use Nintendo’s current membership guidance before redeeming another code; overlapping plans do not always combine in the way a simple extension would.
Choose based on benefits you expect to use. If you only want one DLC permanently, compare the separate purchase with subscription access instead of assuming the larger bundle is automatically better value.
