How to start playing Pokémon TCG Live

Install Pokémon TCG Live for a supported device, sign in to the intended Pokémon account and use the Learn tab before jumping into unfamiliar matches. Live teaches the physical TCG’s rules rather than Pocket’s separate format.

These rules apply to the physical Pokémon TCG and Pokémon TCG Live. Pokémon TCG Pocket uses a different format.

Confirm the app and account

Live is available across supported desktop and mobile platforms. Check the current official download and system requirements, especially on an older device. Do not confuse it with TCG Pocket or the retired Pokémon TCG Online app.

Use the same intended account when moving between supported devices. A new account can look like a missing collection if you expected the progress from another login.

Use Learning Lab for specific questions

The official Learning Lab FAQ directs players to the Learn tab. Lessons can be selected by topic and replayed, which is helpful when one rule—such as Tools or Stadiums—is the actual obstacle.

Complete a lesson before closing if you want that lesson’s progress recorded. Leaving midway can require starting it again. The FAQ’s reward details are time-sensitive, so do not assume an old screenshot promises a current reward.

Learn one deck’s sequence

Pick an available starter or practice deck and identify its main attacker, setup Pokémon and Energy plan. Play enough games to understand that sequence before replacing half the list.

After a loss, ask what prevented the plan: missing a Basic, not finding an evolution, running short of Energy or misreading an effect. A specific answer leads to useful practice.

Check the selected format

Standard rotates and special modes can use different deck rules. An old starter-deck article can explain a strategy without being a current legal list. Use the app’s current validation and official rotation notice when building for today’s format.
